Wanted - trustees for Friends of Penryn Surgery (May 2019)

Friends Of Penryn Surgery currently have a vacancy for a trustee for this registered charity.  If you want more details and can commit to attend meetings every 2 months including an AGM, held on a Tuesday morning at 10am usually at Penryn Pharmacy please contact Ted Glover, Secretary F.O.P.S. on 01326250048

Your date of birth, Telephone Number and e-mail address will be required by the charity commission if you become a trustee (which will make you liable for any financial commitment should this arise).

Fund raising undertaken by the trustees includes coffee mornings, Book sales, Raffles and various stalls.




Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba as a synthesis of his martial studies, philosophy, and religious beliefs. Aikido is often translated as "the Way of unifying (with) life energy" or as "the Way of harmonious spirit”. Ueshiba's goal was to create an art that practitioners could use to defend themselves while also protecting their attacker from injury. Members meet at Mabe School on Thursday evenings (7pm-9pm). Beginners welcome.

The Cornwall Astronomy Society is a friendly, relaxed group of amateur enthusiasts with interests in many areas of astronomy and cosmology. The group meets in the WI Memorial Hall on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month. Under 18s welcome (though must be accompanied by an adult). The group also holds regular outdoor viewing events (weather permitting).


Annual subscription: £25 (standard), £15 (senior citizens), £10 (children aged up to 18 years and full-time students). Subscription rates are pro rata depending on when paid – the year starts 1st January.

Fitness For All is an easy to follow ‘exercise to music’ session suitable for all ages and abilities. Have fun in this friendly class while you improve your general fitness levels. Bring a mat for floor work. Sessions take place every Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm in the Community Hall.

The Huffa Puffas is a support, exercise and social group for people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and their carers. COPD is the name for a collection of lung diseases including chronic bronchitis, emphysema and chronic obstructive airways disease. The group meets on Thursdays (10am-12 noon) in the Community Hall.


Free for the first four sessions, £2 per session thereafter

During the last couple of years Mabe has become the centre of all things shinty outside London. The club has forged links with the Camborne School of Mines’ hockey club, which is based at the Penryn Campus - where members also meet (outside the Stannery) for fitness training (8pm-9pm).

Zumba fuses fitness, entertainment and culture into an exhilarating dance-fitness session. Zumba sessions blend upbeat world rhythms with easy-to-follow choreography, for a total-body workout. Sessions take place in the Community Hall on Wednesdays at 7.30pm and Saturdays at 9am.
